Polymer electrolytes are inherent safe and mechanically flexible
making them promising candidates for high-safety sodium-ion batteries. However
conventional poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)-based polymer electrolytes typically exhibit low room-temperature ionic conductivity and insufficient electrochemical stability at interfaces with layered oxide cathodes
limiting their application in long-life sodium-ion batteries. To address these issues

-dimethylacetamide (FDMA) was introduced as a functional additive into a PVDF-NaTFSI electrolyte
yielding a composite polymer electrolyte with enhanced ionic conductivity and interfacial stability. The carbonyl oxygen in FDMA coordinates with Na
+
thereby weakening the interaction between Na
+
and TFSI and promoting NaTFSI dissociation. Consequently
the composite electrolyte achieves a room-temperature ionic conductivity of 2.62 mS/cm. Density functional theory calculations reveal that FDMA has a low highest occupied molecular orbital energy level
which contributes to the improved oxidative stability of the composite electrolyte. When coupled with O3-type sodium-ion cathode materials in full cells
the PVDF-NaTFSI-FDMA electrolyte enables FDMA-mediated regulation of cathode/electrolyte interfacial chemistry
promoting the formation of a NaF-rich CEI layer. This robust interphase effectively suppresses continuous parasitic reactions between the cathode and electrolyte
thereby mitigating structural degradation of the cathode during cycling. The NaCu

||Na cell using the FDMA-modified electrolyte retains 85.5% of its capacity after 600 cycles at 1 C within a voltage range of 2.0—4.0 V. These results demonstrate that FDMA can simultaneously improve ion transport in PVDF-based
polymer electrolytes and stabilize the cathode-electrolyte interface
providing an experimental basis for developing safe and long-life sodium-ion batteries based on solid polymer electrolytes.
