MXene materials have emerged as promising candidates for energy storage applications
particularly in supercapacitors
by virtue of their excellent electrical conductivity
rich surface functional groups
and superior ion transport capability. However
MXene films still suffer from critical limitations
including the facile restacking of nanosheets
poor structural stability
and constrained ion diffusion kinetics
which severely impede the further optimization of their electrochemical performance. Biomass materials possess distinct advantages of abundant reserves
superior sustainability
and unique structural and functional characteristics
such as hierarchical porous architectures
favorable surface wettability
excellent mechanical flexibility
and in-situ heteroatom doping
providing enormous potential for the structural design and performance modulation of high-performance energy storage electrodes. The hybridization of MXene with biomass materials enables prominent synergistic effects
which effectively suppress nanosheet restacking
optimize interfacial structures
expand ion transport channels
and enhance electrochemical activity. This paper systematically reviews the synthetic strategies of MXene and the fabrication approaches of MXene/biomass composites. The structural design tactics of MXene/biomass composites and their underlying mechanisms for boosting energy storage performance are comprehensively summarized
with emphases on interlayer structure regulation
hierarchical pore construction
conductive network fabrication
mechanical property enhancement
and interfacial coupling modulation. Furthermore
the current challenges and future development directions of MXene/biomass composites are discussed from the perspectives of green and sustainable synthesis
interfacial structure-activity relationship analysis
device integration
and practical application. This review provides valuable references for the rational design and efficient utilization of high-performance and eco-friendly energy storage materials.
